Dental implant bars for dentures can give you a more secure fit than traditional dentures, especially if you’re dealing with slipping, rubbing, adhesives, or trouble chewing. A bar-supported overdenture attaches to implants instead of just sitting on your gums, so you get more stability but can still remove it for cleaning.

When you visit Ora Dental Implant Studio in Elk Grove, we’ll walk you through both removable and fixed implant options during your consultation.

What Is a Dental Implant Bar?

A dental implant bar is a custom piece that connects to implants in your jaw. Your overdenture clips onto the bar, giving you a much firmer foundation than dentures that just rest on your gums.

At Ora Dental Implant Studio, a dental implant bar for overdentures can support implant-supported overdentures if you want more stability but don’t want a permanently fixed bridge. The bar stays attached to your implants, and you can usually remove the overdenture for daily cleaning.

How Is This Different From Traditional Dentures?

Traditional dentures rest on your gums, and their fit depends on suction, shape, adhesive, and the support from your gums and bone. As your mouth changes over time, dentures can start to feel loose.

Dental implants work differently. The FDA dental implant overview explains that implants are medical devices placed in the jaw to support artificial teeth, including dentures. Cleveland Clinic also notes that implant-supported dentures attach to implants and can offer more stability than traditional dentures.

Bar-supported overdentures, snap-on dentures, and fixed full-arch bridges each solve denture problems in their own way. We’ll use your exam and imaging to help you choose what fits your mouth and your goals.

Who Should Consider a Bar-Supported Overdenture?

You might want to talk about a bar-supported overdenture if you:

  • Struggle with loose dentures
  • Use denture adhesive every day
  • Avoid certain foods because your denture shifts
  • Have sore spots from denture movement
  • Want a removable option that feels more secure
  • Are not sure whether you want fixed full-arch implants

You’ll still need enough jawbone to support implants. If bone loss, bite issues, or your medical history affect your plan, our team will walk you through your options before recommending treatment.

Is a Dental Implant Bar the Same as All-on-X?

No. A bar-supported overdenture is usually removable, and All-on-X is a fixed full-arch option. Both use implants, but they’re different types of restorations.

Some people like removable implant-retained dentures because daily cleaning is easier. Others prefer a fixed bridge because they don’t want to take their teeth out at night. The right choice depends on your bone, bite, budget, cleaning routine, and what feels most comfortable for you.

I will highly recommend Dr. Dalla. I found him to be very pleasant and highly professional. I had implants done and he did it so well that I had no discomfort. He is an excellent dentist specialist.

I went to Ora last month for a denture implant consultation, soon as I walked through the door I was greeted by the ladies in the front. My consultation went great Dr. Dalla was great, he listened to my concerns and explained what would be the best procedure for my situation. Also worked with my financial situation. I had all my teeth extracted and my dentures placed. Tia was so wonderful she did her best to calm me down and reassure me there was nothing to be nervous about. Before he started I expressed how nervous and scared I was he assured me I was in great hands and I was. The staff there is the best. I have a little discomfort but when I looked in the mirror for the first time a hour ago I was very very happy with my outcome. I still have to go back for the implants then I'll be finished. I want to thank the whole staff at Ora for giving me my confidence back in my smile.
